Gastroutes* was born from our deep passion for food in all its forms. Our parent company, Tornos, has been a trusted name in the travel industry for 30 years, known for delivering niche, meticulously researched, and curated tours, with food travel as one of its strengths. Gastroutes is an independent, pan-India brand of Tornos, highly focused on serving special-interest travellers who wish to discover India through its rich culinary heritage.
Any gastronome familiar with Indian cuisine knows that the term ‘Indian Cuisine’ is a generalisation. India offers a diverse range of regional cuisines, with multiple variations even within those regions. Given this incredible diversity, it’s impossible to specialise in all of it across India. At Gastroutes, we collaborate with specialists from various regions of India to navigate this complex subject. We understand that exploring ‘Indian Food’ requires micro-specialisation to conduct truly insightful gastronomy tours.
“Gastroutes” operates as a specialist brand under its parent company, Tornos Destinations (India) Pvt Ltd. (short name: Tornos), which has been offering immersive tours for 32 years, Gastroutes maintains its own distinct and independent identity. It functions with a dedicated team of specialists who curate and operate tours specifically focused on the subject of ‘gastronomy in India’. Although it’s legally a part of Tornos, Gastroutes functions with its own unique identity and a separate team, other than Tornos’.
*The brand name GASTROUTES is a portmanteau that combines "Gastronomy" and "Routes." The "RO" is shared between gastROnomy and ROutes, and "NOMY" from gastroNOMY has been replaced by "UTES" from roUTES.
Why us ?
Food in India is incredibly diverse, in fact it is a very complex subject. As a vast sub-continent, India sees its cuisine evolve dramatically across regions—sometimes changing every twenty kilometers.
Therefore, there isn't one singular "Indian Cuisine," but rather a collection of many cuisines shaped by regional geography, history, customs, and culture. Any tour operator claiming expertise without deep, local insights is likely not a true specialist.
Gastroutes was founded to address this need, operating as a specialist by integrating regional food experts—including chefs and food enthusiasts from various parts of India—into our team. This ensures we cater specifically to serious food travelers. Our regional experts are located throughout India, and we are always looking to collaborate with micro-specialists within specific sub-regions.
